The Gunter family has been in the wood business as long as they can remember. Tracy Gunter Sr. grew up in the sawmill business. As his son became of age, his interest in the family business and heritage grew. He knew one day he would become a wood man. Little did he know how his passion would grow. Tracy Gunter Jr. started logging in 1965 with nothing more than a love for the wood business and a dedication to put food on the table. As he "learned the ropes," many hard times and setbacks would follow, but Tracy stuck it out and made his logging operation successful through hard work and good ole fashioned work ethic.
By 1979, Tracy Jr started Tracys Logging, a small operation whose purpose was to harvest wood and foster his love for the business. Using an early model Timberjack skidder and a John Deere Rubbertire loader, Tracy was able to produce 15 loads per week by the early 1980's. Using chain saws to fell wood, Tracy and his crew were able to achieve success through hard work and the dedication that would foster Tracy's Logging's growth through the 1980's and well into the 1990's.
In 1994, Tracy was appointed to the board of directors for the South Carolina Forestry Association and was named the South Carolina Logger of the Year. His dedication to the industry and strong values were well known throughout the region and in 1995 he was named the Regional Logger of the Year.
In 1996, Tracy's Logging reached the pinnacle of the industry, being named as the APA National Logger of the Year. Tracy's Logging was the first South Carolina logger to achieve this award.
